A shocking incident of gunfire occurred at the residence of the BNP president of Sarfabhata Union in Rangunia, Chattogram, leaving both the local political leader and his elderly mother critically injured. The victim, Osman, 42, a professional engineer and president of the Sarfabhata Union BNP, sustained gunshot wounds to his abdomen and arm. His mother, Achiya Begum, aged 70, was injured in both legs while attempting to protect her son. Local residents immediately rushed them to the Upazila Health Complex, and due to the severity of his injuries, Osman was subsequently transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Achiya Begum continues to receive care locally.
According to Osman’s father, Rashid Ahmed, four armed assailants entered the house abruptly and opened fire without warning. The attack created panic throughout the neighbourhood, with residents expressing shock at the brazen nature of the assault.
The local police responded swiftly. South Rangunia Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Mohammad Hilal Uddin Ahmed, stated, “Upon receiving the information, police reached the scene immediately. Law enforcement is working to secure the area, and operations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.”
