Arijit Singh Clarifies Post-Retirement Playback Appearances

At the beginning of this year, celebrated singer Arijit Singh surprised fans by announcing his decision to step back from playback singing. However, despite this declaration, his voice has continued to feature in multiple film projects, raising eyebrows among audiences and triggering widespread discussion on social media.

Most recently, Arijit’s vocals were heard in the soundtrack of Laal Singh Chaddha, starring actor Aamir Khan’s son, as well as in the film Motherland (Matribhumi), headlined by Salman Khan. This led to speculation about whether he had reversed his retirement decision.

Addressing the speculation, Arijit Singh explained that the songs currently being released were largely recorded prior to his announcement. “Before I chose to step away from playback singing, I had already committed to several projects and completed recordings,” he said. “It was not feasible to abandon these works midway.”

Interestingly, one of his recent releases has sparked new conversations, not due to prior commitments, but because of his own initiative. The romantic track “Tu Hi Disda” from the Bhoot Bangla, directed by Priyadarshan and starring Akshay Kumar, features Arijit’s vocals. In this case, the singer himself approached the production team to record the song.

A source close to the project revealed that Arijit contacted Balaji Motion Pictures and the music director Pritam expressing his desire to contribute. “He felt a deep emotional connection to the track and believed he could bring a unique dimension to it,” the source added.
