Pantha Kanai, one of Bangladesh’s most beloved vocalists, is stepping into uncharted territory with his forthcoming acting debut in the film Rockstar. Alongside appearing on screen, Kanai will also contribute to the film’s soundtrack, offering audiences a unique combination of performance and music. In an exclusive conversation with Emdadul Haque Milton, he spoke about his recent single, upcoming film, and broader artistic plans.
Abar Chumki: A Modern Tribute
Kanai recently released Abar Chumki, a refreshed version of his earlier popular song Chumki Choleche Eka Poth. Speaking about the reception, he said,
“The response has been wonderful. The original song has been close to people’s hearts for years. Even the previous remake was well-received, but this time we planned meticulously. Releasing it around the festive season has made it all the more special.”
When asked about the differences from the earlier version, he explained:
“We wanted to preserve the original’s charm while introducing a fresh experience for younger audiences. The music, arrangement, and overall production are modern, but the video retains a nostalgic flavour reminiscent of the 1960s and ’70s, creating a harmonious blend of old and new.”
Kanai also appears in the music video, reflecting on the experience:
“Stepping in front of the camera is always a different sensation. This video had a playful, fun mood, which I thoroughly enjoyed.”
Entering the World of Film: Rockstar
Kanai described his role in Rockstar as a significant career milestone.
“Working with Shakib Khan is an exciting opportunity. Sharing screen space with such a superstar is inspiring, and I’m learning a great deal from the experience. The character has been well-defined by the director, and I hope audiences will appreciate our efforts.”
Addressing speculation about the film being a biopic, Kanai clarified:
“Rockstar is purely fictional. It explores the journey of a rockstar, his rise and challenges. While viewers may notice similarities to real-life stories, it is not based on any individual’s life.”
Future Plans and Drumbaz Music Academy
Kanai also spoke about his music school Drumbaz, which had paused activities due to the pandemic:
“The vision remains the same—to teach young people singing, guitar, and drums. The dream persists, even if my own schedule is hectic.”
Alongside mentoring, he is preparing for Rockstar’s filming, scheduled for the second week of next month, and working on new musical releases.
| Project | Role | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Abar Chumki | Singer, Video Appearance | Released | Modern arrangement with nostalgic visuals |
| Rockstar | Actor, Singer | Filming from next month | Shares screen with Shakib Khan |

Kanai concluded with a heartfelt message for his supporters:
“I am grateful to my fans for their unwavering support. Enjoy Abar Chumki, share it if you like, and stay tuned for more exciting projects.”
