A fatal road traffic accident in the Dhuliakhali Bypass area of the Biganj Sadar upazila claimed the life of a 30-year-old motorcyclist on Sunday afternoon, highlighting once again the persistent safety concerns on regional highways.
The deceased, Jahidul Islam, son of Abdul Hamid, hailed from the Mirpur area of Bahubal upazila in Habiganj. The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 pm when his motorcycle was involved in a head-on collision with a speeding passenger bus travelling in the opposite direction.
According to local witnesses and police reports, Jahidul Islam was crossing or moving along the Dhuliakhali Bypass road when the bus approached at high speed. The impact of the collision was severe, and he died instantly at the scene. The force of the crash left the motorcycle extensively damaged, while the bus was brought to a halt shortly after the incident.
The sudden tragedy caused panic among nearby residents and passers-by, many of whom rushed to the scene. Law enforcement officers from the Habiganj Sadar Police Station arrived promptly, bringing the situation under control and securing the area. Both the bus and the damaged motorcycle were subsequently seized and taken to the police station for further investigation.
Authorities have confirmed that the body of the deceased was recovered from the site and sent to the Habiganj 250-bed District Sadar Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. Police officials stated that legal procedures have been initiated and that a full investigation is underway to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the crash, including whether speeding or reckless driving played a role.
The accident has once again drawn attention to road safety issues on busy bypass routes, where mixed traffic, speeding vehicles and limited enforcement often contribute to serious collisions.
