A domestic dispute in the Cumilla Sadar South Upazila has resulted in the death of a 35-year-old man after he was allegedly attacked by his elder brother during a violent altercation linked to a disagreement over household disturbance.
The incident occurred on Thursday at approximately 1:30 p.m. in Goalgown village under West Jorakanan Union. Police confirmed that the accused, identified as Mororshed (40), has been taken into custody in connection with the killing of his younger brother, Faisal (35), son of the late Rajamiah.
According to the Officer-in-Charge of Cumilla Sadar South Model Police Station, the sequence of events began late Wednesday night when Mororshed’s wife, who works at a local factory, returned home after completing a night shift. She went to sleep in the morning, and shortly afterwards, noise created by children playing near the house reportedly disturbed her rest.
Mororshed allegedly became agitated over the disturbance and scolded the children, stating that they were disrupting his wife’s sleep. Faisal intervened, asking his elder brother to calm the situation, which led to a verbal altercation between the siblings. The dispute initially subsided as both brothers left the residence separately.
However, tensions resurfaced when they returned home around 1:30 p.m. the same day. The argument escalated rapidly, and Mororshed allegedly fetched a machete (locally known as a “da”) and struck Faisal, causing severe injuries.
Locals rushed Faisal to Cumilla Medical College Hospital, where attending doctors declared him dead upon arrival. Police later recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
Following the incident, law enforcement conducted a swift operation at Suagazi Bazar at around 3:30 p.m., leading to Mororshed’s arrest. Authorities have stated that legal proceedings are being prepared, and a formal murder case is expected to be filed.
