Heavy Rain Forecast in Four Divisions

The Meteorological Department has forecast the possibility of heavy rainfall in four divisions of Bangladesh, including the capital Dhaka, within the next 24 hours. According to the latest weather bulletin issued on Sunday morning, thunderstorms accompanied by rain are also likely across all divisions of the country during the same period.

The forecast indicates that a mild heatwave currently affecting 14 districts is expected to continue. The prevailing weather conditions suggest that daytime temperatures may rise slightly across the country, while night-time temperatures are likely to remain largely unchanged.

In its detailed outlook, the department stated that the low-pressure area previously located over the south-western Bay of Bengal and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal has become insignificant. However, its extended trough now stretches from West Bengal to the northern Bay of Bengal. Under its influence, rainfall activity is expected to persist in several parts of the country.

By 9:00 a.m. on Monday, moderate to heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in the Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions. In addition, many areas within these four divisions, along with a few places in the Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions, may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers. These may be accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds and lightning activity.

Regarding temperature conditions, the bulletin noted that a mild heatwave is currently sweeping over parts of the Khulna division as well as the districts of Madaripur, Lakshmipur, Rajshahi, and Pabna. This condition is likely to persist in the coming period.

Over the past 24 hours, the highest temperature recorded in the country was 37°C in Khulna. During the same period, the highest recorded rainfall was 52 millimetres in Tangail.
