A grisly murder investigation in the Mugda area of Dhaka has taken a further disturbing turn after police recovered a severed head several hours after finding seven dismembered body parts scattered across the same neighbourhood.
According to police officials, the latest discovery was made at approximately 2:30am on Monday in the Maniknagar area of Mugda. The head was reportedly found wrapped in black polythene and discarded in a vacant space between two residential buildings near a paved roadside. Earlier on Sunday afternoon, law enforcement officers had recovered seven separate body parts from multiple locations nearby, triggering widespread alarm among residents.
Officials from Mugda Police Station said the case was immediately treated as a priority following the initial recovery of the mutilated remains. Sub-Inspector Abu Raihan confirmed that officers launched an overnight search operation after the first discoveries, leading to the recovery of the victim’s head.
Investigators suspect the victim was murdered elsewhere before the body was cut into multiple pieces and disposed of at different points in an apparent attempt to conceal evidence and complicate identification. Such methods, police say, are often used in premeditated killings to delay forensic analysis and hinder the investigative process.
The recovered head has been sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. Previously recovered body parts were also preserved at the same facility pending forensic analysis.
Authorities have yet to establish the identity of the deceased. Police stated that severe mutilation has made visual identification nearly impossible, prompting a request for advanced forensic support. Investigators have already applied for DNA analysis to determine the victim’s identity and potentially match samples with relatives or missing persons.
In parallel, officers are reviewing CCTV footage collected from surrounding streets and buildings. Local residents are being questioned, while police are cross-checking recent missing persons reports filed in Dhaka and nearby districts.
Law enforcement officials believe the brutality and disposal method indicate a carefully planned homicide. However, investigators have cautioned that no conclusions can yet be drawn regarding the motive, timing of death, or the number of individuals involved.
Residents of the Mugda-Maniknagar এলাকায় have expressed growing concern following the incident, as the recovery of human remains from several public locations has heightened fears over violent crime in the area.
