In Cumilla’s Sadar South Upazila, a man has been killed following a family dispute in which his elder brother allegedly attacked him with a sharp weapon. The incident occurred on Thursday at around 1:30 pm in Goyalgাঁও village under West Jorakanon Union. Police have arrested the accused elder brother in connection with the killing.
The deceased has been identified as Foysal (35), while the arrested individual is his elder brother Morshed (40). Both are sons of the late Raja Mia of the same village.
According to police and local sources, the sequence of events began on Wednesday night when Morshed’s wife, who works at a local factory, returned home after completing her night shift and was resting the following morning. At that time, children were making noise near the house, prompting Morshed to reprimand them. This incident reportedly led to a verbal altercation between Morshed and his younger brother Foysal.
The disagreement continued, and tensions escalated further during the day. At around midday, the two brothers again became involved in an argument. During the confrontation, Morshed allegedly became agitated, retrieved a dao (a traditional cutting instrument) from the house, and attacked Foysal repeatedly, causing him serious injuries.
Family members subsequently rescued the injured man and transported him to Cumilla Medical College Hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead.
Following the incident, police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. The accused initially fled the scene but was later apprehended in the Suagazi Bazar area during a police operation conducted in the afternoon.
The Officer-in-Charge of Cumilla Sadar South Model Police Station, Md. Rakibul Islam, confirmed that the killing stemmed from a minor family dispute. He further stated that the accused has been arrested and legal proceedings are underway. A case is being prepared by the victim’s family.
