Seven Children Die from Measles

Seven children have died in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours due to measles and measles-related symptoms, according to the latest regular bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services. Of the total deaths recorded during this period, three were confirmed measles cases, while four were attributed to measles-related complications or symptoms.

The report covers the 24-hour period from 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday to 8:00 a.m. on Thursday. During this interval, health authorities also recorded 1,423 new cases of children presenting with measles symptoms across the country.

Since 15 March, the cumulative number of children showing measles-related symptoms has reached 59,279. In the same broader timeframe, confirmed measles cases have continued to be identified, with 208 new confirmed cases reported in the latest 24-hour reporting period. The total number of confirmed measles cases since 15 March now stands at 8,275.

Hospitalisation data show that 46,407 children with measles symptoms have been admitted to medical facilities since 15 March. Of these, 42,336 children have recovered and been discharged. Based on these figures, 4,071 children remain under treatment in hospitals.

Mortality figures since 15 March indicate that 405 children have died due to measles-related symptoms, while 83 deaths have been recorded among confirmed measles cases. This brings the total number of deaths during the period to 488.
