Thematic Conception and Pandemic Origins

During the media briefing, Balam detailed the spiritual and psychological framework that inspired the track, which opens with the prayerful line: “Maula Maula Maula, tui pana dere Maula” (O Lord, grant us refuge). The lyrics were co-written by Rashid Newton and Balam during a period of acute global instability.

Balam explained the emotional motivations behind the song:

“The track was conceived during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, a time defined by widespread human helplessness and fear. It felt as though we had no ultimate protection except through surrender to the Almighty. That feeling drove the songwriting process. When I later shared the completed track with Angshu, we resolved to develop a high-concept video that could do justice to those heavy themes.”

Geographic Challenges and High-Altitude Filming

The distinctive aesthetic of the video was achieved by filming on location in Kalinchowk, a remote, snow-covered mountainous region in Nepal. The production crew executed the shoot at an altitude of approximately 8,000 feet above sea level, navigating extreme cold and unpredictable weather. To match the harsh environment, the creative team styled Balam in an explorer-inspired look, featuring long heavy overcoats and rugged textures.

Director Tanim Rahman Angshu discussed the logistical delays and the demanding production schedule:

“We originally planned to film this project back in 2020, but various disruptions put it on hold. A few weeks ago, Balam reached out to confirm he was ready to proceed and wanted an entirely unconventional look. That discussion directly inspired the Viking concept. The filming conditions in Nepal were incredibly harsh due to the intense cold, and the team worked through severe physical strain. We believe the audience will appreciate that collective effort when they see the final film.”
