A case has been lodged with a court in Shariatpur over the alleged assault of Sujit Karmakar, head teacher of Damudya Pilot Girls High School in Damudya Upazila. The complaint was filed by the teacher himself before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Shariatpur.
According to the case statement, eight individuals have been named as accused, along with nine unidentified persons. The allegations include assault and extortion, specifically the demand for money followed by physical violence.

Following the attack, relatives of the injured teacher took him to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital for medical treatment.

Officer-in-Charge of Damudya Police Station, Mohammad Jahangir Alam, stated that no written complaint had yet been formally submitted to the police station regarding the incident. He noted that he had heard about the court filing but confirmed that no official documents had been received by the police at that stage. He further stated that appropriate legal steps would be taken once the court order regarding the FIR is officially communicated.
Background to the dispute
Local sources from the school and police indicate that Sujit Karmakar was appointed head teacher of Damudya Pilot Girls High School in 2013. Approximately two years ago, he became involved in a dispute with a local group over various issues. During that period, allegations were raised against him concerning the harassment of female students.
Following political changes in 2024, a written complaint was submitted against him to the local administration. In connection with these developments, he reportedly stopped regular attendance at the school after 18 September 2024, although he remained formally in position and occasionally took leave.
On Sunday morning, he arrived at the school gate by CNG autorickshaw, where he was allegedly attacked shortly after stepping out of the vehicle and prevented from entering the premises.
