Bodies of Two Missing Children Recovered

In Melandah upazila of Jamalpur, the bodies of two children were recovered from a pond approximately six hours after they had been reported missing. Local residents retrieved the bodies, bringing an end to a search that began in the late afternoon.

According to local sources, the two children went missing at around 5:00 pm on Tuesday. Despite extensive searching by family members in surrounding areas, no trace of them was found for several hours. The situation escalated later in the night when signs of their presence were discovered near a pond close to their home.

At approximately 10:55 pm, residents noticed a pair of shoes and a playing ball belonging to the children beside the pond. This raised suspicion among locals, who then began a search of the water body. During the search, the bodies of the two children were eventually recovered from the pond.

The deceased were identified as eight-year-old Annafi, son of Abdus Rafiq, and seven-year-old Rifat Hossain, son of Manjur. Both belonged to Raybakai village under Char Banipakura Union in Melandah upazila. They were reported to be maternal uncle and nephew.

Confirming the incident, Sub-Inspector Rofiqul Islam of Melandah Police Station stated that the two children had been missing since the afternoon. After receiving information from local residents, police visited the scene. At around 10:55 pm, with the assistance of locals, the bodies were recovered from the pond.

Following the recovery, police initiated the necessary legal procedures in accordance with standard protocol.
