Iranian Cyber Attacks Against Israel Triple Within One Year

Iranian cyber attacks targeting Israel have risen sharply since the launch of the United States-Israeli military campaign against Iran, according to a senior Israeli security official. The claim comes amid continuing tensions between the two regional adversaries, where cyber warfare has become an increasingly significant element alongside conventional military operations.

Speaking to the German newspaper Die Welt, Yossi Karadi, Director General of Israel’s National Cyber Directorate, said Israeli authorities had recorded approximately 4,800 hostile cyber attacks during June 2026. That represents a threefold increase compared with June 2025, when around 1,600 cyber attacks were documented during Israel’s military campaign against Iran.

Karadi described the growing scale of the cyber threat as a serious concern. While expressing confidence in Israel’s defensive capabilities, he cautioned against underestimating the sophistication of some of the hacking groups involved.

“Some hacker groups are highly skilled,” he said. “We are managing the situation, but they should not be taken lightly.”

According to Karadi, unlike conventional warfare, the cyber domain does not observe ceasefires or pauses in hostilities. Even during periods when military activity may ease, cyber operations continue uninterrupted, making digital security a constant challenge for governments and businesses alike.

He said the attacks had primarily targeted Israel’s critical national infrastructure and key government institutions. These included attempts to disrupt essential public services and compromise sensitive government systems. Karadi maintained that Israeli cyber defence teams had successfully prevented every attempted attack against these vital networks so far.

The campaign has not been limited to government entities. Small and medium-sized businesses, privately operated computer systems, and professional organisations such as legal and accounting firms have also been targeted. Officials believe these organisations are often viewed as easier entry points because they may lack the advanced security measures employed by larger institutions.

Karadi added that hackers had successfully penetrated some companies with weaker cyber defences, deleting entire databases and causing significant operational disruption. Such attacks can lead to financial losses, prolonged service interruptions and costly recovery efforts, even when no classified government information is involved.

Iran has rejected the allegations, dismissing Israel’s accusations of orchestrating the cyber attacks as unfounded. Tehran has repeatedly denied involvement in previous cyber incidents attributed to Iranian actors, while both countries have regularly accused each other of carrying out digital espionage and cyber sabotage in recent years.

The latest claims highlight how cyber warfare continues to play an increasingly prominent role in the long-running confrontation between Israel and Iran, with attacks on digital infrastructure becoming an integral part of the broader geopolitical conflict.
