Khulna youth injured in gun attack

A 22-year-old man was injured after being shot by unidentified assailants in Khulna’s Lobonchora area on Thursday morning, in an incident that has prompted a police investigation.

The victim, identified as Md. Ratul Sheikh, was struck in the right thigh during the early hours of the day. He was initially taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where he remains under treatment.

According to family members and police accounts, the incident occurred around 7:00 am in the Ashibigha Balur Maath area. Ratul Sheikh, a resident of the Harintana area under Lobonchora Police Station, had been living as a tenant at a house in the Prem Goli area of the same locality.

Witnesses said Ratul was present in the open field area when sudden gunshots were heard, causing panic among nearby residents. Locals rushed towards the scene and discovered him lying injured with a gunshot wound to his leg. The attackers fled immediately after opening fire, leaving the area in confusion.

Residents quickly arranged transport and moved the injured young man to hospital. Medical staff later confirmed that he sustained a bullet injury to his right thigh. His condition has not been officially described in detail, though he is currently receiving treatment.

Law enforcement officers from Lobonchora Police Station visited the scene shortly after being informed. They examined the area and spoke with the injured man as part of their initial inquiry.

Sub-Inspector Ashraful Alam confirmed that police had responded promptly to the incident. He stated that efforts were underway to determine the identity of those involved and establish the motive behind the shooting. At this stage, no arrests have been made, and investigators are collecting information from witnesses and reviewing possible leads.

Locals expressed concern over the incident, noting that such acts of sudden violence create fear within the community, particularly when they occur in open public spaces during morning hours. Police have assured that legal steps will follow as the investigation progresses.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the attack was targeted or linked to any prior dispute.
