The FIFA World Cup in North America has entered one of its most exciting phases, with the knockout rounds steadily narrowing the race for the title. After beginning with an expanded field of 48 teams, only a handful of nations remain in contention as the tournament moves into its fourth week. The Round of 16 is nearing completion, and four countries have already secured their places in the quarter-finals.
Morocco, France, Norway and England are the first teams to reach the last eight. Each progressed under different circumstances, with some producing convincing victories while others had to withstand sustained pressure before sealing qualification. Their progress has set the stage for an intriguing quarter-final line-up, although half of the places are still to be decided.
The remaining four quarter-final berths will be determined over the next two days as the final Round of 16 fixtures take place. Several traditional football powers are still in the competition, ensuring that the battle for a place in the last eight remains highly competitive.
The first of the remaining knockout matches will see Portugal face Spain on Monday, 6 July. The match is scheduled to kick off at 1:00 am Bangladesh time at the Dallas Stadium in the United States. Given the long-standing rivalry between the two European nations, the fixture is expected to be one of the standout encounters of the Round of 16.
Three more matches will follow on Tuesday, 7 July. Hosts the United States will meet Belgium at the Seattle Stadium, with kick-off set for 6:00 am Bangladesh time. Later in the day, Switzerland will take on Colombia at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, Canada, beginning at 2:00 am Bangladesh time. The final Round of 16 tie will feature Argentina against Egypt at Atlanta Stadium in the United States, with the match scheduled for 10:00 pm Bangladesh time.
The quarter-final schedule has already begun to take shape. France and Morocco will meet in the opening quarter-final on 9 July at Boston Stadium in the United States. A day later, the winners of Portugal versus Spain will face the winners of the United States versus Belgium at Los Angeles Stadium.
The third quarter-final, scheduled for 11 July, will see Norway play England at Miami Stadium. The final quarter-final will take place on 12 July at Kansas City Stadium, where the winners of Argentina against Egypt will meet the victorious side from the Switzerland versus Colombia fixture.
With leading teams from Europe, Africa and the Americas still competing, the race for the World Cup trophy has become increasingly compelling. Once the remaining Round of 16 fixtures have been completed, the full quarter-final line-up will be confirmed, leaving every surviving nation just three victories away from lifting football’s most prestigious prize.
