Government School Achieves Outstanding Scholarship Success

A government primary school in Bangladesh has drawn widespread attention after delivering an exceptional performance in the latest Primary Scholarship Examination. Nawabganj Model Government Primary School in Chapainawabganj saw 52 of its 53 candidates awarded scholarships, a remarkable achievement that has been widely praised by education officials and the local community.

Of the successful students, 40 secured scholarships under the highly competitive Talent Pool category, while the remaining 12 earned General Grade scholarships. The result has placed the school among the district’s top-performing educational institutions and highlighted the growing academic standards of government primary schools.

Headteacher Latifa Haque confirmed the achievement, describing it as the outcome of a collective effort involving teachers, students and parents. She said the school had focused on regular classroom instruction, additional preparatory lessons and close academic supervision throughout the year. According to her, maintaining consistent teaching standards and ensuring individual attention for pupils were key factors behind the school’s impressive results. She added that the institution intends to continue these efforts to sustain its academic success in future examinations.

According to the Chapainawabganj District Primary Education Office, a total of 963 students from government primary schools and kindergartens across the district’s five upazilas received scholarships in the 2025 Primary Scholarship Examination. Among them, 420 students earned Talent Pool scholarships, while 543 qualified for General Grade awards.

The overall results also indicate that government primary schools outperformed kindergartens in the district. Of the 963 scholarship recipients, 763 were students from government schools. Within this group, 340 secured Talent Pool scholarships and 423 received General Grade awards. By comparison, 200 students from various kindergartens obtained scholarships.

District Primary Education Officer Md Saiful Islam described the overall performance as highly encouraging, particularly because the primary scholarship examination had resumed after a lengthy gap. He said Nawabganj Model Government Primary School’s achievement stood out even among the district’s best-performing institutions.

“The fact that 52 out of 53 candidates received scholarships is an extraordinary accomplishment,” he said. “Even the one student who did not receive a scholarship is academically talented. This success reflects the dedication of teachers, the hard work of students and the continuous support of parents.”

The Primary Scholarship Examination was held on 15 April at 12 examination centres across Chapainawabganj district. Of the 8,248 students registered for the examination, 5,838 ultimately sat the test.

Under the Directorate of Primary Education’s scholarship policy, students awarded Talent Pool scholarships will receive a monthly government stipend of Tk600, while General Grade scholarship recipients will receive Tk450 per month. Both categories of successful candidates will also be awarded special merit certificates in recognition of their academic achievement.

The school’s outstanding performance is being viewed as a strong example of how effective teaching, careful preparation and active parental involvement can produce exceptional academic outcomes in government primary education.
