Primary School Abuse Allegation Sparks Legal Battle in Chuadanga

A case involving allegations of physical abuse of a child student at Farmpara Government Primary School in Chuadanga has taken a new turn, with a lawsuit filed against the school’s headteacher, Kaberi Karim. The incident has now developed into a legal dispute between two sides, as an earlier case filed by the headteacher had named the student’s parents as accused parties.

According to the complaint submitted to the court, the incident took place on the morning of 8 July during the school assembly. The child allegedly felt unwell due to extreme heat and was standing with both hands covering his ears. The lawsuit claims that the headteacher became angry, pulled the student out of the assembly line, slapped him on both cheeks, and pushed him to the ground. It further alleges that the child was taken to the headteacher’s office, where he was subjected to further physical assault.

The child’s family said they later went to the school with local residents and rescued the student. They alleged that the child was subjected to unjustified physical punishment and decided to seek legal action to ensure justice. The family maintained that disciplinary measures in educational institutions must follow lawful and child-friendly procedures.

The child’s maternal grandfather, Abdur Rashid, filed the case against the headteacher at the Chuadanga Magistrate Court. The complainant alleged that they initially approached the police to register a case but faced difficulties, leading them to seek legal remedy through the court.

The complaint also includes allegations that the child’s father, Shamsur Rahman Shuvo, was threatened with death and allegedly kept missing. However, no official statement has so far been issued by the relevant authorities regarding these claims.

Meanwhile, headteacher Kaberi Karim had previously filed a separate case against the child’s parents in connection with the same incident. In her complaint, she alleged that the child’s father entered her office, physically assaulted her, obstructed her in carrying out official duties, and behaved inappropriately towards her. The case named the child’s father and mother as accused.

Following that case, police arrested the child’s mother, Mitali. She was produced before the court the following day, after which she was granted bail. However, police have not yet arrested the child’s father, who is the main accused in the headteacher’s case. There has also been no confirmation that he has surrendered before the court.

The controversy intensified after a video recorded by the school’s closed-circuit television cameras spread widely on social media. The footage sparked public discussion, with questions raised about the treatment of students in educational institutions as well as allegations of misconduct against the headteacher.

The incident has created a complex situation, with both parties presenting conflicting accounts and claiming to be victims. Child protection concerns, teachers’ responsibilities, and allegations of misconduct are now at the centre of public attention.

Authorities and local residents believe that a proper investigation and the court’s legal proceedings will be essential in determining what actually happened and establishing accountability. The final outcome will depend on evidence presented during the judicial process and the findings of the investigation.
