Speculation surrounding their relationship had mounted months before the tournament commenced. Rumours intensified earlier in the year when photographs emerged of the couple holidaying together in Greece. The partnership was formally confirmed in May when they were photographed attending a dinner together in Barcelona, marking their first public appearance as a couple.
In a recent interview, Garcia Santos dispelled grand assumptions about their romance, clarifying that their connection began quite conventionally through social media. She noted that whilst people often look for a fairy-tale narrative, they had actually known each other for far longer than the public realised, engaging in extensive conversations before their inaugural face-to-face meeting.
The road to the final was not without its hurdles. Having recently recovered from an injury just in time for his maiden World Cup appearance, Yamal initially struggled to find his rhythm in the opening group stages. Prior to the final, Garcia Santos had publicly rallied behind Yamal, sharing an Instagram story regarding Justin Bieber’s halftime show performance with a motivational message in Spanish: “Do whatever it takes to win the final. Do you hear me? Whatever it takes.”
