Insurance Intermediary Market Set to Hit USD 653 Billion

The global insurance brokers and agents industry is on track for monumental expansion over the next decade, driven by an increasingly volatile global risk landscape and an escalating corporate demand for bespoke financial guidance. According to a comprehensive market study published by research firm Global Market Insights, the sector is projected to expand at a robust compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.1 per cent between 2026 and 2035. This sustained commercial momentum is forecast to propel the global market value to a staggering USD 653.4 billion by the end of the forecast period, rising from an estimated baseline of USD 299.6 billion in 2026.

This highly optimistic trajectory follows a strong fiscal performance in 2025, when the global industry consolidated its valuation at USD 276.5 billion. Several overarching structural factors are accelerating this development, most notably the growing complexity of modern corporate threats, heightened geopolitical instability, and a massive structural shift towards digital distribution channels. Corporate and individual clients alike are rapidly abandoning standardised, off-the-shelf policies in favour of sophisticated risk management frameworks tailored to their precise structural vulnerabilities.

Regional Dynamics and Growth Engines

Geographically, North America continues to maintain its status as the largest and most consolidated regional market for insurance intermediaries. The region’s dominant position is heavily reinforced by exceptionally high insurance penetration rates, deeply entrenched regulatory frameworks, and a mature, advisory-led commercial model that prioritises long-term corporate client relationships.

In contrast, the Asia Pacific region is forecast to register the fastest growth rate globally over the coming decade. A combination of rising public awareness regarding financial protection, rapidly expanding middle-class populations, and sweeping regulatory reforms is unlocking massive growth potential across major economies, including China, India, Japan, and several key Southeast Asian nations. Furthermore, the swift integration of mobile-first digital ecosystems and advanced digital distribution tools in these countries has allowed intermediaries to modernise their client acquisition and retention strategies at a fraction of traditional operational costs.

Shifting Advisory Roles and Compliance Hurdle

The modern threat environment has fundamentally altered the structural relationship between intermediaries and policyholders. Brokers and agents are increasingly transitioning from transactional sales representatives into comprehensive, long-term risk consultants. This broader advisory role is particularly evident in high-stakes sectors such as cyber insurance, commercial general liability, and specialized health insurance, where corporate clients require ongoing expert counsel to navigate volatile operational and legal terrains.

Simultaneously, navigating the global regulatory environment has become a capital-intensive priority for major market participants. As jurisdictions introduce stricter licensing standards, heightened fiduciary responsibilities, and rigid data protection mandates like GDPR and its regional equivalents, firms are forced to aggressively scale up their operational governance. Broking houses are expanding their internal budgets to fund advanced compliance infrastructure, rigid automated audit processes, and continuous professional training programmes for front-line personnel to effectively mitigate legal and reputational risks.

Despite the immense scale of the global marketplace, a handful of dominant multinational institutions continue to capture a significant share of industry revenue. In 2025, Marsh McLennan stood as the world’s largest individual player, commanding a 5.27 per cent share of the global market. Together, the top five corporate entities—comprising industry titans Allianz, Aon, AXA, Brown & Brown, and Marsh McLennan—accounted for 19.97 per cent of the global marketplace, illustrating a highly competitive environment where scale, international network reach, and diversified advisory capabilities remain paramount for survival.
