One Dead, 338 Hospitalised as Dengue Toll Continues to Rise

Bangladesh health authorities have reported one new fatality and 338 fresh hospitalisations linked to dengue fever within a single 24-hour period. According to a formal bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Tuesday, the latest victim succumbed to complications arising from the mosquito-borne virus within the Dhaka South City Corporation area.

This single death brings the total national casualty count to 38 since January. During the same period, cumulative nationwide hospital admissions reached 11,195, signaling a persistent health burden as vector-borne infections continue to spread through urban centers.

Dhaka remains the core focus of transmission, with municipal infrastructure severely tested by persistent stagnant water. Intermittent monsoon rainfall, elevated humidity, and poor drainage create ideal breeding conditions for the Aedes aegypti mosquito, particularly across densely populated neighborhoods in the capital’s southern municipal zones.

Hospitals throughout Dhaka and nearby districts are adjusting clinical resources to accommodate steady patient admissions. Healthcare administrators are expanding dedicated treatment wards to manage potential capacity bottlenecks, whilst public health officials reiterate that timely medical evaluation remains crucial to preventing severe complications such as fluid leakage and Dengue Shock Syndrome.

Epidemiological patterns in Bangladesh show that dengue has transformed into a persistent, year-round concern rather than an exclusively seasonal threat. Prolonged warm periods and altered rainfall patterns have extended active vector breeding windows across both urban and semi-urban regions.

In response, municipal authorities are conducting larvicidal drives and deploying monitoring teams to identify standing water in residential complexes, commercial sites, and unfinished construction projects. Health experts stress that controlling vector populations requires consistent community engagement alongside municipal cleanup measures.
