15-Year-Old Motorcyclist Killed in Truck Collision in Chuadanga

A 15-year-old boy was killed after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a truck in Chuadanga on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Abdullah, son of Shahabuddin Biswas of Taltala village in Chuadanga Sadar upazila. The accident occurred at around 1pm on 22 July near Alukdia Bazar along the Chuadanga-Meherpur road.

According to local residents, relatives and eyewitnesses, Abdullah worked at a motorcycle repair shop in Alukdia Bazar. As part of his work, he had taken a motorcycle onto the road for a test ride to identify a mechanical fault. He was reportedly carrying out the test when the accident occurred.

Witnesses said Abdullah was riding near a petrol station in the Alukdia Bazar area when a truck travelling towards Chuadanga was involved in a collision with the motorcycle. The impact caused the teenager to fall onto the road, after which he was run over by the truck. He died at the scene.

The incident quickly drew the attention of people in the surrounding area. Local residents rushed to the spot after hearing the crash, while news of the accident soon reached Abdullah’s family members, who also arrived at the scene. His death at such a young age left his family and the local community in deep grief.

Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station, said the boy’s relatives had taken his body from the scene to their home following the accident. He said no complaint had been lodged with the police at the time of his statement. If a complaint is submitted, the authorities will take legal action in accordance with the law, he added.

The precise circumstances surrounding the collision, including details about the truck and its driver, were not immediately available. It was also unclear whether any formal investigation had been initiated at the time. Police said any further legal steps would depend on whether a complaint was filed and on the findings of any subsequent inquiry.

The Chuadanga-Meherpur road is an important route in the region and is used regularly by buses, trucks, motorcycles, private vehicles and other forms of transport. Areas around local markets can become particularly busy, with pedestrians, roadside businesses and vehicles sharing limited road space. Such conditions can increase the risk of collisions, especially when heavy vehicles and smaller vehicles operate in close proximity.

The accident has also highlighted concerns over the safety of young people who work in motorcycle repair shops and may be required to conduct test rides. Test riding a vehicle on a busy public road carries risks, particularly when the rider is young or inexperienced and when the road is crowded with larger vehicles. Proper supervision, the use of appropriate safety equipment and greater awareness of surrounding traffic can help reduce such dangers.

At the same time, the incident underscores the need for all road users to exercise caution in market and residential areas. Heavy vehicle drivers must remain alert to motorcycles and other smaller vehicles, while motorcyclists need to maintain safe speeds and remain attentive to traffic conditions.

Abdullah’s death at the age of just 15 has cast a shadow of mourning over his family and community. It has also renewed attention to the wider issue of road safety, particularly the vulnerability of young riders and other smaller road users on busy highways and market-centred stretches.
