Jubo League Leader Arrested Overnight for Alleged Extramarital Affair

Two people, including a woman described as a local political leader, were detained by residents in Fatikchhari North upazila of Chattogram following allegations of an illicit relationship and alleged immoral activity. The pair were subsequently handed over to police and, after the necessary legal procedures were completed, were sent to court, according to police.

The incident reportedly took place at around 1am on Thursday, 23 July, in the Rubber Dam Dolu Aralia area of Ward 6 in Bhujpur Union. The incident attracted attention in the locality after residents reportedly became aware that a man had visited the woman’s home late at night.

The woman detained was identified as 40-year-old Rasu Begum. According to local sources, she is a female member of the convening committee of the now-banned Awami Jubo League’s Fatikchhari North upazila unit. She is also reportedly the wife of an expatriate living in the area.

The other person detained was identified as 45-year-old Mohammad Hasem, son of Bacha Mia from the Kotbaria Nazir Khal area of the same union.

According to police and local sources, Hasem allegedly went to Rasu Begum’s residence in the middle of the night. After learning of his presence, local residents reportedly gathered at the scene and detained the two individuals. They were later taken to Bhujpur police station and handed over to officers, with residents alleging that the pair had been involved in inappropriate activities.

The precise legal allegations against the two individuals were not immediately detailed by police. The authorities said the pair were handed over by local residents and that the required legal process was subsequently followed before they were sent to court.

The incident has also prompted reactions from local political figures. Ekramul Haque Ekram, general secretary of the Bhujpur unit of the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Jubo Dal, condemned what he described as such activities. His comments reflected the political reaction to the incident in the locality.

Local Union Parishad member Mohammad Sohel Munshi also made allegations concerning Rasu Begum. He claimed that accusations of involvement in immoral activities had been made against her for some time and that she had allegedly been warned on several occasions. According to him, the latest incident prompted residents to detain her and the man accompanying her before handing them over to police.

However, allegations made by local residents or political figures should not be treated as established facts unless they are proven through due legal proceedings. The circumstances surrounding the incident and the precise nature of any offences, if established, will ultimately depend on the findings of the relevant authorities and the court process.

Bhujpur police station officer-in-charge Bipul Chandra Dey confirmed that local residents had detained the two individuals and handed them over to police. He said the necessary legal procedures had been completed and that they had subsequently been sent to court.

The incident has generated discussion in the area, particularly because of the political identity attributed to one of those detained. The case will now proceed through the legal system, where the allegations and circumstances surrounding the incident can be examined according to law.
