A construction worker has been accused of entering a woman’s home at night and attempting to rape her in Dhunat, Bogura district. The alleged victim, a 29-year-old mother of two, filed a case with Dhunat Police Station on Tuesday night in connection with the incident.
The accused has been identified as Minister, 30, the son of Mokhlesar Rahman of Bara Chapra village in Dhunat upazila. Police said they were working to arrest him.
According to the police and the case statement, the accused had allegedly been harassing the woman, who is the wife of a local farmer, for some time. The latest incident reportedly took place on the night of 19 July.
The woman’s husband had reportedly left home to watch a football World Cup match at a neighbour’s house. Before leaving, he placed the outside latch on the door, leaving his wife inside the house.
The case statement alleges that Minister took advantage of the situation, opened the latch and entered the house. He then allegedly attempted to sexually assault the woman.
The woman raised an alarm, prompting family members and others nearby to come to her assistance. The accused allegedly fled the scene after hearing the commotion.
The incident was reported to the police, and the woman subsequently filed a case on Tuesday night. The complaint has prompted an investigation, while police have begun efforts to locate and arrest the accused.
Dhunat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Atikul Islam confirmed the case on Wednesday afternoon and said that police were continuing their operation to arrest the accused.
The police have not yet announced an arrest in the case. Further legal action will be taken in accordance with the law once the accused is apprehended, police said.
The allegations remain under investigation, and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court. The police inquiry is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident and determine the next steps in the legal process.
