Shakibul, who tragically lost his life on the spot, was the son of Tarikul Islam from the Bortia Mouhali area under the Ghior upazila of Manikganj district. Witnesses and companions revealed that the fatal excursion began earlier that morning when a group of riders set out from Manikganj with eleven motorcycles. Navigating through the Daulatdia ferry terminal, the cohort reached the Bhanga intersection in Faridpur, where nine additional local riders joined their ranks.

The group had planned an informal, high-stakes speed trial stretching from Bhanga all the way to the Padma Bridge. Shortly after crossing the Arial Kha bridge in Shibchar, the motorcycles accelerated to dangerous speeds as the competitive atmosphere intensified. Negotiating a stretch of the multi-lane thoroughfare, Shakibul lost control of his machine. The motorcycle veered off course, slamming violently into the expressway’s steel railing and reducing the vehicle to a mangled wreck.

Rather than staying to render aid or contact emergency services, the victim’s fellow riding companions abandoned him in a pool of blood, fleeing the scene in panic as soon as they realised the severity of the crash.

Arohi Aktar, a female companion accompanying the group, recounted the harrowing sequence of events. She explained that she and another female friend had been dropped off at Bhanga while the young men pressed ahead to begin the illicit racing trial. She learned of the catastrophe shortly afterward, arriving at the scene only to find her friend dead and the other racers entirely absent. She noted that the group frequently organized such informal speed trials, often connecting through social media platforms to stage dangerous road races.

Upon receiving alerts from motorists, officers from the Shibchar Highway Police Station rushed to the location and recovered the body from the expressway. Sub-Inspector Mamun of the highway police confirmed that the remains were retrieved from the site, though no formal complaints had been lodged by the family at the time of reporting. The incident has reignited serious concerns among transport authorities regarding the rising trend of illegal motorcycle racing on high-speed expressways.
