Three Dhaka Police Stations Get New Officers-in-Charge

Three police stations under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have been given new officers-in-charge (OCs) as part of a wider administrative reshuffle involving several police inspectors. The changes affect the leadership of Ramna, Kamrangirchar and Shyampur police stations, while six inspectors have also been transferred or assigned new responsibilities in different DMP units.

The changes were announced in an official order signed on Wednesday (30 July) by Mohammad Shahriar Ali, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters and Administration) of the DMP.

According to the order, Yasin Mia, an unarmed police inspector serving as an investigation officer at Cantonment Police Station, has been appointed as the new OC of Ramna Police Station. He will replace Mohammad Rahat Khan, who has been transferred from the post and assigned to the DMP’s City Intelligence Analysis Division.

The reshuffle has also brought new leadership to Kamrangirchar Police Station. Mohammad Azharul Islam, an unarmed police inspector from the Detective Branch’s Cyber Special Crime North Division, has been appointed OC there.

At Shyampur Police Station, Mohammad Nazrul Islam, also an unarmed police inspector from the DB’s Cyber Special Crime North Division, has been given charge as the new OC.

The officials previously heading the two stations have also received new assignments. Kamrangirchar’s outgoing OC, Golam Faruk, has been transferred to the DB’s Cyber Special Crime North Division. Meanwhile, Shyampur OC Mohammad Mahmudur Rahman has been assigned to the DMP’s Counter Terrorism Investigation Division.

The latest order reflects the routine administrative practice of transferring and reassigning police personnel according to organisational requirements. Such reshuffles are intended to ensure the effective deployment of officers across both frontline policing and specialised investigative units.

The position of OC is particularly significant within the DMP’s operational structure. An OC oversees a police station’s day-to-day activities, including maintaining public order, preventing and investigating crime, responding to complaints, supervising case-related procedures and managing the station’s overall administrative operations. The officer also plays a key role in coordinating with local communities and responding to emerging security concerns.

The three stations affected by the latest changes cover densely populated and strategically important parts of the capital. Ramna, in particular, encompasses areas with major government, commercial and public institutions, while Kamrangirchar and Shyampur include busy residential and industrial zones. Effective policing in such areas requires close monitoring of local crime trends, rapid responses to incidents and sustained engagement with residents.

The reassignment of officers to specialised units also highlights the DMP’s continuing reliance on dedicated teams to tackle emerging forms of crime. Cybercrime investigations, intelligence analysis and counter-terrorism operations require specialised expertise and coordinated investigative work. Officers moving into these divisions will therefore take on responsibilities distinct from those associated with conventional station-based policing.

For the newly appointed OCs, immediate priorities are likely to include familiarising themselves with the security environment in their respective jurisdictions, reviewing ongoing cases and strengthening operational coordination among police personnel. Maintaining public confidence and ensuring accessible police services will also remain central to their responsibilities.

The transferred officers, meanwhile, will assume duties in their new units and continue their careers in areas ranging from intelligence analysis and cybercrime investigations to counter-terrorism operations. The reshuffle, therefore, represents not only a change in the leadership of three police stations but also a broader redistribution of policing responsibilities across the DMP’s field and specialised units.
