Hotel Worker Found Dead Near Inani Beach, Injuries Raise Questions

Police have recovered the body of a 27-year-old hotel employee from an open field near Inani Beach in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, with visible injury marks on different parts of his body. The death has sparked allegations from the victim’s family that he may have been deliberately killed and his body abandoned in an isolated location. Police, however, have yet to establish the exact cause of death and say the findings of a post-mortem examination will be crucial to determining what happened.

The body of Abdul Aziz, son of Rashid Ahmed of Jummapara in Ward No. 1 of Jaliapalong Union in Ukhiya, was recovered from an open area to the north of the staff quarters of the five-star Bay Watch Hotel, located on the eastern side of Inani Beach. Police said they received information about the body at around 12.15am on Thursday and went to the scene to recover it.

On Thursday afternoon, police prepared an inquest report before sending the body to the morgue of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The examination is expected to help determine whether the injuries were connected to Aziz’s death and whether there were any other factors involved.

Aziz had been working at the hotel for about a year. His responsibilities included looking after and maintaining the hotel’s cattle farm. As his workplace was nearby, he lived in the staff quarters. His death has therefore raised questions about his movements before the incident and what may have occurred in the area surrounding his accommodation.

Atiqur Rahman Majumder, officer-in-charge of Ukhiya Police Station, said police found injury marks on various parts of Aziz’s body but could not immediately determine how he had died. He said investigators were examining the circumstances surrounding the death and that the post-mortem report would provide more reliable evidence about the cause.

Aziz’s family, meanwhile, suspects foul play. They have alleged that he may have been beaten or strangled before his body was left in the field. The allegations have not yet been independently established, and investigators will need to determine whether the injuries found on the body are consistent with the family’s claims.

According to Aziz’s wife, Saika Yasmin, her husband left home on Tuesday afternoon and returned to his workplace. She last spoke to him by telephone at around 11am on Wednesday. Later that night, she learned that his body had been found in the field beside the hotel staff quarters. The news reached the family at around 1am, leaving them shocked and distressed.

The couple have three daughters, and Aziz was the family’s sole earning member, according to his wife. His sudden death has left the family facing both emotional trauma and uncertainty over their financial future. Saika has called for a proper investigation into the circumstances of her husband’s death and urged the authorities to identify anyone responsible and bring them to justice.

The incident has also prompted concern among local residents. Sultan Mahmud Chowdhury, general secretary of the Ukhiya upazila unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, described Aziz as a hardworking young man and said the circumstances of his death warranted a thorough investigation. He suggested that investigators examine CCTV footage from the hotel staff quarters and surrounding areas, saying such footage could help establish Aziz’s movements and identify people who may have been present before or after the incident.

Enayet Ullah, deputy general manager of Bay Watch Hotel, said Aziz was a local resident employed to oversee the hotel’s cattle farm. He added that the hotel authorities did not have any confirmed information about how the employee had died.

Investigators are now expected to focus on several key questions: the precise cause of death, the origin of the injuries found on Aziz’s body, his movements before his death, and the people he may have met. Information from the scene, statements from potential witnesses and CCTV recordings could all prove significant in establishing a timeline of events.

The family has said it is preparing to file a case. Police are continuing their investigation, while the post-mortem report is expected to provide important evidence. Until that report and further investigative findings are available, it remains unclear whether Aziz was murdered, died in an accident, or lost his life under other circumstances. For his family and the local community, the central demand remains the same: that the circumstances surrounding his death be thoroughly investigated and the truth be established.
