The victim, an impoverished resident of the Sarkari Shishu Paribar (Balika), was discovered to be six months pregnant on 5 July, sparking widespread outrage and prompting an immediate official inquiry.

The four-member investigation committee, led by Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Sushmita Saha, submitted its exhaustive findings to the District Commissioner, Md Mazharul Islam, on 29 July, with details officially disclosed on Thursday.
