The arrest took place in the Char Shimla area under the Nagda Shimla Union of Gopalpur Upazila. Rezaul Karim served as the acting head teacher of Chatutia Purba Para Government Primary School and is the son of the late Habibullah from the nearby village of Saidpur.

According to Sub-Inspector Nazrul Islam of Gopalpur Police Station, law enforcement authorities had received credible intelligence indicating that the educator had been secretly involved in drug consumption and local trafficking rings for a considerable period. Acting on this tip-off, officers ambushed the area on Wednesday night and recovered ten yaba tablets from his possession. During the operation, police also detained his motorcycle driver, Moniruzzaman Munna, who is the son of Liakat Ali from Gulipecha village and was allegedly assisting in the illicit transport.

Local educational authorities expressed deep concern upon learning of the incident. Upazila Primary Education Officer Md Shafiqul Islam Khan noted that he was currently on leave and relatively new to his post in the region, meaning he did not personally know the accused teacher. However, he confirmed that he had verified the details of the arrest through the assistant upazila primary education officer.

Gopalpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Ruhul Amin confirmed that a formal criminal case has been filed against both suspects under the stringent Narcotics Control Act. On Thursday morning, the accused individuals were produced before the local court and subsequently remanded into judicial custody as investigations continue.
