In a deeply distressing incident, police have recovered the lifeless body of a thirty-year-old housewife named Israt Jahan from a locked flat in Jamalpur town. During the operation, authorities successfully rescued her two young children who had been locked inside another room of the apartment. This shocking event has created immense public concern and left local residents deeply grief-stricken.
The tragic occurrence unfolded on Sunday morning within a residential building situated in the Sheker Vita railway crossing area of Jamalpur town. The victim, Israt Jahan, lived in the apartment with her husband, Kausar Ahmed Shawon, who is thirty-five years old. According to local reports, the husband has remained untraceable and absconding ever since the incident came to light. The couple shared a family that included a ten-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son.
According to local residents and eyewitness accounts, the grim reality of the situation first came to light during the morning hours when neighbours heard desperate crying coming from inside the locked flat. The two young children were peering through the window, repeatedly asking for water and sobbing in distress. Alarmed by the unusual crying and the children’s persistent pleas for water, nearby residents grew suspicious. They promptly informed the owner of the building to check on the apartment.
Upon inspection, the landlord and local people discovered that the main door of the flat was securely locked from the outside with a heavy padlock. Recognising the urgency of the situation, the courageous local residents broke the lock to gain entry into the flat and safely rescued the two trapped children. While searching the interior, they made the horrifying discovery of Israt Jahan’s motionless body lying in another room. Overwhelmed by the shocking discovery, they immediately dialled the national emergency service number 999 to alert the police.
A local resident named Mousumi Akhter explained to local media that after the children cried for water through the window, neighbours gathered and broke the door lock to pull the youngsters out to safety. Upon entering the premises and witnessing the tragic sight of the woman’s body, they immediately notified the law enforcement agencies.
Police teams from Jamalpur Police Station arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the emergency call. Officers secured the perimeter, recovered the body from the flat, and conducted an initial inquest report. To determine the exact cause of death, the body was subsequently transferred to the morgue at Jamalpur General Hospital for a comprehensive post-mortem examination.
Jamalpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazmus Sakib stated that law enforcement personnel responded immediately upon receiving the information, retrieved the body, and initiated standard legal procedures. Investigators have noted that it is still too early to confirm whether the incident is a case of suicide or homicide. Police are continuing their active investigation to uncover the underlying mystery behind the death, while efforts are underway to track down and apprehend the absconding husband to shed light on the tragic event.
