Comilla Man Beaten to Death in Family Dispute

A domestic dispute spiralled into tragedy in Comilla’s Burichong upazila on Tuesday afternoon, leaving twenty-nine-year-old Zakir Hossain dead. Local authorities and residents have accused his elder brother, thirty-two-year-old Md Shakil, alongside a group of associates, of carrying out a brutal assault that claimed the young man’s life in the Kakiyarchar West Para area.

The victim was the son of Ayub Ali, a local resident. According to accounts provided by police and neighbourhood residents, the confrontation began as a bitter verbal argument between the two brothers. The dispute reportedly centred around domestic tensions and unresolved issues related to narcotics. As tempers flared, the argument turned physical, with Shakil and his accomplices allegedly subjecting Zakir to a severe beating.

The physical assault left the young man critically injured and unconscious. However, instead of rushing him to a medical facility for urgent care, those present allegedly delayed intervention. Initial police investigations indicate that there were deliberate attempts to conceal the body and withhold news of the incident from law enforcement. The secrecy surrounding the incident quickly generated deep concern and tension among local residents.

The matter finally came to light several hours later, around six o’clock in the evening, when local citizens informed village police member Mokhles. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Mokhles immediately alerted the formal authorities. Responding to the call, officers attached to the Debpur police outpost under Burichong Police Station arrived at the scene late that night. They recovered the lifeless body and completed an initial inquest report directly at the location.

A preliminary inspection of the remains revealed multiple signs of violent trauma. Police noted a blunt-force injury on the back of the victim’s head, deep lacerations caused by sharp weapons across both legs, and a prominent cut across the middle of his forehead. These severe injuries raised immediate questions regarding the nature of the assault.

Sub-Inspector Surejeet Barua, the in-charge of the Debpur police outpost, addressed the ongoing inquiry. On Wednesday morning, the body was transferred to the morgue at Comilla Medical College Hospital for a comprehensive post-mortem examination. Authorities emphasised that the exact cause of death would only be confirmed once the autopsy report is finalized.

Police are currently examining all angles of the case, including the domestic grievances and narcotics-related disputes that triggered the fight. Investigators are also scrutinising the timeline of events—specifically why the victim was denied prompt medical attention and who attempted to cover up the fatality. Law enforcement officials have affirmed that rigorous legal action will be taken against all individuals implicated once the formal investigation concludes.
