Police in Gazipur have arrested a high-profile narcotics operative, known locally as “Kutta Mizan”, recovering a substantial quantity of illicit substances alongside cash, vehicles, and communication equipment. Officers from Tongi West Police Station carried out the targeted midnight operation near Gate No. 2 of the Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master Stadium, located along the western corridor of the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway.

The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Mizan, had been under sustained police surveillance as a key supplier operating within the regional narcotics trade. Acting on precise intelligence regarding an imminent contraband handover, law enforcement personnel surrounded the stadium perimeter at approximately 1:30 am on Friday. Mizan was intercepted at the scene while attempting to facilitate the distribution of the consignment.

A search conducted immediately following his detention yielded one kilogramme of heroin and 2,500 individual yaba pills—a potent synthetic combination of methamphetamine and caffeine widely circulated across urban smuggling rings. In addition to the narcotics, officers seized 5,510 taka in cash believed to be the proceeds of illegal sales, two smartphones used to coordinate drug deliveries, and a motorcycle utilised to navigate transit routes.

The industrial belt of Tongi, situated on the northern outskirts of Dhaka, has long served as a strategic transit hub for illicit narcotics due to its dense transport infrastructure, heavy daily traffic, and direct connections to major national highways. The illicit trade in synthetic drugs like yaba, alongside refined opiates such as heroin, continues to present significant challenges for law enforcement agencies operating across the Gazipur Metropolitan area. In response, regional authorities have intensified intelligence-led operations to disrupt distribution networks, dismantle local syndicates, and target habitual offenders managing regional supply chains.

Officer-in-Charge of Tongi West Police Station, Ariful Rahman, confirmed the details of the raid, stating that a formal case has been registered under the Narcotics Control Act. Following initial interrogation and procedural documentation, police remitted Mizan to the judicial authorities in Gazipur on Friday afternoon for formal arraignment and subsequent legal proceedings.
