Law enforcement authorities in the capital have intensified their crackdown on crime and illicit trafficking, leading to the apprehension of 554 individuals over a 24-hour period. The sweeping operations, conducted across various neighbourhoods and police jurisdictions, underscore ongoing efforts by the metropolitan police to maintain public safety, curb drug distribution, and dismantle criminal networks operating within the city.
The latest wave of arrests and subsequent case filings was officially confirmed on Saturday by Additional Deputy Commissioner Niaz Mehedi of the Media and Public Relations Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). According to police briefing data, law enforcement teams filed 30 formal cases against the suspects during these operations.

Seizure of Narcotics and Contraband
Alongside the mass arrests, tactical police units recovered substantial quantities of illegal narcotics, communication devices, and financial instruments during the raids. The seized items point towards coordinated operations by localized distribution syndicates. The confiscated contraband includes 5,435 pieces of yaba tablets, 31.2 kilograms of cannabis, and 20 bottles of Eskaph cough syrup.
Furthermore, officers seized 21 mobile phones, 8 bank visa and credit cards, a private car, and 146 SIM cards belonging to various mobile network operators, which investigators suspect were utilized for illicit communications.
The apprehended individuals are currently facing legal proceedings as the police finalise formal charges under existing statutory frameworks. The DMP has reiterated its commitment to sustaining these targeted operations across the capital to ensure a secure environment for residents.
