A devastating head-on collision between a goods lorry and a passenger autorickshaw has left two people dead and four others injured in central Bangladesh.
The fatal accident occurred at roughly half-past eight on Monday morning along the busy Trishal-Balipara road in Mymensingh. According to local residents and law enforcement officials, the tragedy unfolded near the Thakurbari intersection when a Balipara-bound truck collided violently with an oncoming compressed natural gas-powered autorickshaw heading towards Trishal. The force of the impact left the three-wheeler completely mangled, trapping the passengers inside.
The sound of the crash brought nearby residents rushing to the scene. Bystanders immediately stepped in to pull the trapped occupants from the wreckage and rushed them to the Trishal Upazila Health Complex. Upon arrival, medical personnel examined two of the passengers and pronounced them dead at the scene. The victims included an unidentified man aged approximately thirty-five and an unidentified woman around forty years old.
Four other individuals sustained serious injuries in the smash. The casualties include the autorickshaw driver, 34-year-old Fayzul, alongside passengers Rubel, 30, Hridoy, 22, and Nabil, 22. Medical staff at the local facility administered emergency treatment to all four survivors. However, due to a sharp decline in their condition, Fayzul and Rubel were subsequently transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced trauma care, while Hridoy and Nabil received treatment locally.
Locals noted that the Trishal-Balipara route remains heavily congested with mixed traffic throughout the day. Reckless overtaking and excessive speed by heavy vehicles frequently heighten safety hazards on regional stretches of this nature, although investigators have yet to confirm the exact trigger for Monday’s collision.
Sub-Inspector Rezaul Karim of Trishal Police Station confirmed that officers recovered the bodies from the site and ensured the injured received medical attention. The driver of the truck fled the area immediately following the crash. Police have launched a search operation to trace the fugitive motorist, secure the vehicle, and establish formal legal proceedings while efforts continue to identify the deceased victims and notify their families.
