Hamza Chauhdhury is set to begin a new chapter of his club career after ending a 21-year association with Leicester City and completing a permanent move to Sheffield United.
The 28-year-old Bangladesh international will return to Bramall Lane, a ground he knows well after spending the 2024–25 season with Sheffield United on loan. During that spell, Hamza made 16 appearances for the Blades, gaining valuable experience with the club before making the move permanent.
Leicester City confirmed the transfer in a statement, acknowledging Hamza’s lengthy association with the club and wishing him well for the next stage of his career. His departure brings an end to a relationship that began when he was a child and joined Leicester’s academy.
Hamza went on to progress through the club’s youth system before establishing himself in the senior side. He eventually made 165 appearances for Leicester, becoming a familiar figure within the club over the course of his career.
His time at Leicester also included some notable achievements. He was part of the side that won the FA Cup in 2021, one of the most significant trophies in the club’s history. Three years later, he helped Leicester secure the Championship title in 2024 as the club returned to the Premier League.
The move to Sheffield United therefore represents more than simply a change of club. For Hamza, it marks the beginning of a fresh stage after spending virtually his entire professional football development at Leicester.
His club career has also taken on added significance since he chose to represent Bangladesh at international level.
Born in Loughborough, England, Hamza has a Bangladeshi mother and was developed within the English football system. He represented England at Under-21 level before later deciding to play international football for Bangladesh.
He made his Bangladesh debut in March 2025 against India in a match that ended in a goalless draw. Since then, Hamza has become an important part of the national team and has made 10 appearances, scoring four goals.
His decision to represent Bangladesh significantly raised his profile among the country’s football supporters. With his experience of English football and years spent competing at a high level, he has emerged as one of the most prominent figures in Bangladesh’s current national-team set-up.
