A dark cloud of shock and horror has descended upon an industrial neighbourhood in Savar following the grim discovery of three decomposing bodies locked inside a residential flat. Law enforcement agencies have launched an intensive investigation to unravel the mystery behind what appears to be a calculated multiple murder targeting a young family.
The gruesome discovery unfolded in the early hours of Saturday morning within the Madhyam Jamgora area of Ashulia, situated on the outskirts of the capital. Officers retrieved the bodies from a locked second-floor flat of a four-storey residential building owned by a local resident named Haji Hazrat Ali.
Local residents first raised the alarm late Friday night after noticing an unbearable stench emanating from the sealed apartment. Responding to urgent calls, local police units rushed to the scene at approximately 1:30 AM. Forced entry into the locked premises revealed the tragic sight of three lifeless bodies: an adult male, an adult female, and a newborn infant. Preliminary observations by investigators and locals confirmed that the adult male’s neck was bound tightly with a fabric towel, strongly pointing towards asphyxiation and foul play.
News of the grim find spread rapidly through the densely populated neighbourhood, drawing crowds of anxious and grief-stricken onlookers to the building’s exterior. Community members expressed deep concern over the rising vulnerability of residential tenants and pressed authorities for a swift and transparent investigation to track down those responsible for the atrocity.
Tariqul Islam, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Ashulia Police Station, briefed reporters on the preliminary findings.
“We suspect the deceased individuals comprise a husband, a wife, and their newly born child,” the police official stated. “However, their identities, hometowns, and formal registration details remain entirely unknown at this stage. All initial indications suggest this was a targeted homicide, and we have deployed specialised teams to establish their identities as a primary priority.”
Following the grim recovery, a wave of tactical units descended on the crime scene to secure vital evidence. A specialized forensic investigation team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrived shortly afterwards to sweep the flat for fingerprints, DNA samples, and physical traces. Simultaneously, senior officers from the Dhaka Northern Detective Branch (DB) and local police stations established a joint perimeter, initiating a comprehensive multi-agency inquiry to bring the perpetrators to justice.
