Madrasa Teacher Remanded After Arrest for Alleged Sexual Assault

A teacher attached to a religious institute in Daganbhuiyan, Feni, has been taken into police custody following accusations of sexually assaulting a young residential student.

The suspect, identified as Nizam Uddin, was apprehended on Saturday night (5 September) during a targeted operation conducted by law enforcement officers in the Chowrasta area of neighbouring Noakhali district. Police tracked him down using advanced digital intelligence and mobile tracking technology after he absconded from his workplace. He was formally presented before a local court on Sunday morning to undergo initial judicial proceedings.

According to police case documents, the alleged incident took place on the night of 1 August inside the Hefzkhana (Quran memorisation quarters) of the Kaushalya Islamia Hafizia Madrasa in Daganbhuiyan. The victim disclosed the ordeal to his family, prompting them to seek legal redress. On 29 August, the child’s father lodged an official criminal case against Nizam Uddin at Daganbhuiyan Police Station.

The accused immediately went into hiding after learning of the police complaint. Investigators launched a multi-district search effort, gathering intelligence and leveraging location tracking software to pinpoint his whereabouts in Noakhali. Following his arrest, officers transferred him back to Daganbhuiyan for preliminary questioning before remanding him to judicial custody.

Confirming the arrest, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daganbhuiyan Police Station, Faizul Azim Noman, stated that a specialized team successfully located and apprehended the suspect using technological support. He confirmed that the accused was produced in court on Sunday morning, adding that law enforcement officials are actively gathering forensic evidence, collecting witness testimony, and establishing the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The arrest has generated significant local discussion, bringing renewable focus to the safety, supervision, and safeguard protocols within residential religious institutions. Advocates emphasize that residential academies housing children require stringent monitoring, transparent grievance mechanisms, and rigorous background verification for all staff members. Authorities noted that the legal merits and factual accuracy of the allegations will be thoroughly examined through the ongoing judicial process.
