The police operations unfolded throughout Friday, spanning several localities within Brahmanpara. Led by Sub-Inspector Md Rafiqul Islam alongside Assistant Sub-Inspectors Md Nur Al-Ahsan, Ratan Kumar Mallick, and Md Nasir Uddin, the patrolling units caught the individuals red-handed while they were consuming drugs. Following their immediate detention, the suspects were transferred to the judicial magistrates through summary trials, where the court handed down the respective verdicts.

The individuals convicted during the proceedings originate from various neighbouring regions and local communities. They include 45-year-old Jalal Ahmed from Ganakirpara in Habiganj’s Chunarughat upazila, along with 26-year-old Zahidul Islam alias Mehedi and 32-year-old Md Kawsar Molla, both hailing from Saichapara in Cumilla’s Debidwar upazila. The list of convicts further features 42-year-old Md Masud from Shashidal and 40-year-old Golam Mostofa from Malapara, both located within Brahmanpara upazila, as well as 38-year-old Md Sohel Ahmed from Lakshmipur and 30-year-old Md Ismail from Noapara in Brahmanbaria’s Kasba upazila.

Under the terms of the court’s judgment, Jalal Ahmed, Zahidul Islam alias Mehedi, Md Kawsar Molla, and Golam Mostofa received rigorous prison sentences lasting five days. Meanwhile, Md Masud, Md Sohel Ahmed, and Md Ismail were handed rigorous prison terms of three days each. In addition to the custodial sentences, the bench imposed a monetary fine of one hundred taka on every convict. The ruling stipulates that failure to settle the financial penalty will result in an additional single day of simple imprisonment.

Brahmanpara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Faruque Hossain emphasised that local authorities maintain an uncompromising stance against the narcotics trade and its consumers. Routine patrols and enforcement drives will persist across the region as part of broader efforts to shield the public from the pervasive harms associated with illicit substances.
