Barcelona have secured the long-term future of Egyptian forward Hamza Abdelkarim, extending his contract with the Catalan club until 30 June 2030.
The 19-year-old striker is scheduled to sign the new agreement with Barcelona president Joan Laporta at the club’s offices on 15 September. Following the formal signing, Abdelkarim is expected to speak to journalists at Barcelona’s commercial offices, according to a statement released by the club.
The new deal represents a significant step in the young forward’s rapid development since emerging through the club’s youth system. Abdelkarim first attracted attention in Egyptian football because of his ability to score goals consistently. His finishing and attacking instincts earned him the nickname ‘the Egyptian Haaland’, a comparison that has followed him as his career has progressed.
After making his mark in Egypt, Abdelkarim quickly established himself within Barcelona’s youth structure. One of his notable performances came in a 9-0 victory over Montcada, when he scored a hat-trick. The emphatic win also helped the Under-19 side secure the Division d’Honor title.
His performances at youth level strengthened Barcelona’s belief in his potential. During the summer of 2026, the club reached a permanent agreement with the forward, giving him an opportunity to continue his development within the organisation. He was subsequently involved in the first team’s pre-season preparations under head coach Hansi Flick.
Abdelkarim made a strong impression during that period, scoring four goals to finish as Barcelona’s leading scorer in pre-season. His performances increased his involvement with the senior squad and helped him move closer to regular first-team opportunities.
That progression culminated in his senior debut on 31 August, when Barcelona faced Rayo Vallecano at Spotify Camp Nou. For a player who had risen through the academy ranks only a short time earlier, appearing for the first team represented an important milestone.
Barcelona’s decision to extend his contract now provides Abdelkarim with a long-term pathway at one of Europe’s leading clubs. It also underlines the club’s willingness to invest in a young forward who has impressed at several stages of his development.
The move from youth football to senior competition can be demanding, particularly at a club where competition for attacking positions is intense. Abdelkarim’s next challenge will be to translate his scoring record and promising performances at youth and pre-season level into consistent contributions for the first team.
