Four people, including two women, were killed in separate road crashes in Mymensingh, while four others were injured. The accidents occurred at different times in Trishal, Nandail and Gafargaon on Monday (14 September), according to police officials at the relevant police and highway stations.
The first reported crash took place around midday in the Tirkhi Kalibazar area of Trishal. A sand-laden dump truck collided head-on with a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw, leaving the smaller vehicle badly mangled in the impact.
The auto-rickshaw driver, Jasim Uddin, 38, died at the scene. Several passengers were injured in the collision and were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for treatment. An unidentified woman later died while receiving treatment there. Four other injured people remain under medical care at the hospital.
The condition of the injured was not immediately available. Police and local sources said the crash left the auto-rickshaw severely damaged, underscoring the force of the collision between the passenger vehicle and the heavy truck.
A separate fatal crash occurred in Nandail on Sunday night. In the Atkapara area of the Mymensingh-Kishoreganj highway, an unidentified vehicle reportedly ran over a female pedestrian, aged around 35. She died at the scene.
Nandail Highway Police recovered the woman’s body after receiving information from local residents. Her identity had not been established immediately, and details about the vehicle involved were not available at the time of the initial report.
Another fatal road accident was reported in the Paithal Union area of southern Gafargaon. Rifat, 25, was killed in the crash. Initial reports did not provide details about the circumstances of the accident or the vehicle involved.
The three incidents have brought the death toll from separate road crashes in the district to four within a short period. The incidents also highlight the risks faced by passengers of smaller vehicles and pedestrians on busy roads and highways, where collisions involving heavy vehicles can have particularly severe consequences.
Police officials said the necessary legal procedures were being followed in the separate cases. Authorities are also working to establish the identities of the unidentified victim and determine the circumstances surrounding the crashes. Further details are expected as the investigations progress.
