Police have arrested 40 people during a special operation in several areas of Siddhirganj in Narayanganj, with those detained linked to different cases and legal proceedings.
The arrests were made as part of an operation conducted in various parts of Siddhirganj. Of the 40 people arrested, 30 were accused in cases under summary trial proceedings, four were identified in connection with drug-related cases, five were wanted under court warrants and one was an accused in a case filed over the anti-discrimination movement.
Siddhirganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Emdadul Haque confirmed the arrests on Monday afternoon, 14 September.
Police said the operation targeted individuals facing different forms of legal action. Among those arrested under court warrants are Abdur Rahman Shuvo, Md Zafar, Rafiqul Islam, Md Rony and Helal Gazi.
Those accused in summary trial cases are Ainul Haque, Md Hridoy, Md Momin, Ramadan Ali, Manik Sikder, Zahirul Islam, Badal, Saiful Islam, Mostafizur Rahman, Shahjahan, Maruf, Masum alias Machhi, Oli, Md Nasir, Monju, Jaber, Afzal, Ma Rafique, Md Saiful Islam, Mintu, Md Abul Hossain, Md Ripon, Md Fahad Hossain, Ashraful, Md Matin, Babul Peda, Md Ripon, Md Limon Khan, Ismail Hossain Shawkat and Md Shamim.
In connection with drug-related cases, police arrested Md Sohel Rana, Amir Hossain, Md Joni and Shahida Begum. Md Khalilur Rahman Shyamol was also arrested as an accused in a case related to the anti-discrimination movement.
The police operation comes as law enforcement agencies continue to pursue individuals wanted in pending cases, including those facing court warrants. Such operations generally involve checking information on suspects and executing outstanding warrants, alongside action in other cases under the jurisdiction of the relevant police station.
According to the Siddhirganj police, the 40 detainees were taken into custody in accordance with the allegations and legal proceedings against them. Their arrest does not itself establish guilt; the cases will proceed through the appropriate legal process.
OC Md Emdadul Haque said all 40 arrested individuals had been sent to court after the completion of the necessary procedures.
The court will now determine the next steps in the respective cases, based on the allegations, warrants and other relevant legal documents. The arrests also reflect the continuing police focus in Siddhirganj on executing court warrants and taking action against people accused in various criminal cases.
