The tragedy occurred on Monday evening within the Arafat Nagar area of Raingemari village, situated under the jurisdiction of the Joyma Union in Batiaghata Upazila. According to local accounts, the victims have been identified as four-year-old Maria, daughter of Manik Howlader, and her companion Khadija, daughter of Md Abdullah. The sudden loss of two young lives has left their respective families and local residents utterly devastated.

Preliminary accounts from witnesses and community members indicate that the children had wandered near a nearby canal during the late afternoon. It is believed that they entered the water to bathe or play while unsupervised. Without the ability to swim or gauge the depth, they drifted into deeper sections and became submerged. Moments later, locals spotted their lifeless bodies floating in the canal and pulled them ashore, but it was already too late to revive them.

Police inspected the site and initiated formal administrative procedures regarding the victims’ bodies. Authorities at the police station confirmed that necessary legal steps are currently being processed to handle the tragic case.
