The result marked Afghanistan’s tenth successive defeat at the hands of the Indian team, pushing them past the previous benchmark set by Bangladesh.
Bangladesh’s last T20 victory over India came on 3 November 2019. Since that lone triumph, the Tigers suffered nine consecutive defeats against their subcontinental rivals, reflecting India’s overwhelming dominance in the shortest format of the game over recent years. Until yesterday’s fixture in Delhi, that nine-match slide represented the longest losing run by any nation against India in T20 international cricket.
Afghanistan’s struggles against India span more than a decade. The side has failed to register a single T20 victory against the Men in Blue since their initial meeting in 2010. They came remarkably close to breaking the drought in January 2024 when a thrilling encounter ended in a tie, though India ultimately clinched the match in a dramatic Super Over, keeping the winless streak intact.
Further down the historical rankings, Zimbabwe occupy third place, having lost their last eight consecutive T20 fixtures against India. Unlike Bangladesh and Afghanistan, however, Zimbabwe’s broader record features notable bright spots. The African nation boasts three T20 victories over India across their cricketing history, securing wins in 2015, 2016, and most recently in July 2024. These periodic breakthroughs demonstrate that their rivalry has not been an entirely one-sided affair.
Bangladesh feature twice in the ledger of extended losing runs against India. Beyond their nine-match slump between 2019 and 2025, they previously endured an eight-game losing streak from 2009 to 2018. Ireland also logged eight straight defeats to India in the past, though the Irish side dramatically broke that spell last June by claiming back-to-back victories to seal a landmark series win. While Afghanistan now sit at the top of this undesirable statistical table, the primary challenge for Bangladesh remains breaking their own prolonged drought against India on the field.
