A special tribunal in Faridpur has sentenced a young man to life imprisonment following the rape of a 13-year-old girl in the Char Bhadrasan area.

The verdict was handed down on Tuesday afternoon by the Judge of the District and Sessions Court, who presides over the Faridpur Prevention of Women and Children Repression Tribunal. The convict, identified as Raju Shaikh, was present in the dock when the judgment was pronounced. Alongside the custodial sentence, the tribunal imposed a fine of Tk 2 lakh on the convict. Should he fail to pay the financial penalty, he will be required to serve an additional year behind bars.

The proceedings stem from a formal complaint lodged at Char Bhadrasan Police Station after the 13-year-old girl was assaulted. Police initiated a thorough investigation into the incident, collecting physical evidence, forensic findings, and eyewitness statements. Upon concluding the probe, investigating officers submitted a comprehensive charge sheet to the court, formally accusing Raju Shaikh of the crime.

During the subsequent trial, the prosecution presented a robust case comprising testimony from multiple material witnesses, medical reports, and corroborating documentary evidence detailing the victim’s physical trauma. The defence attempted to challenge the allegations, but the panel of evidence ultimately left no room for reasonable doubt regarding the accused’s culpability.

Confirming the outcome, Public Prosecutor Advocate Golam Rabbani Rattan stated that the court carefully weighed all submitted records and testimony before declaring Raju Shaikh guilty. He noted that the severity of the sentence reflects the grave nature of offences committed against minors under Bangladeshi law.

Legal proceedings concerning sexual violence against children typically hinge on rigorous medical examination documents, victim depositions, and swift police investigations. In this instance, the tribunal’s decision marks the culmination of a full judicial process aimed at ensuring accountability for heinous crimes against vulnerable individuals. Following the delivery of the verdict, law enforcement personnel escorted Raju Shaikh under tight security to the Faridpur District Jail to begin serving his sentence.
