Police in Gazipur have recovered the body of a 16-year-old female garment factory worker from her accommodation in the Jorun district under Konabari Police Station. The deceased, identified as Hasina Akter, was found hanging inside her room on Monday evening, sparking widespread grief and shock across the local industrial neighbourhood.
Hasina, daughter of Hasen Ali from Amgach Bilasi Tistapara village in the Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh district, had migrated to Gazipur approximately four years ago. She lived in a rented corrugated tin-roofed house belonging to the late Babul Miah alongside her maternal aunt and uncle. Like thousands of young internal migrants from rural northern districts, she worked as an operative in a local ready-made garment factory to earn a living and support her family back home.
Family members reported that Hasina had been suffering from physical illness over the preceding two days and had remained away from her workplace to recuperate. She was last seen at home on Monday afternoon. Around 5:30 pm, her relatives noticed that her room was locked securely from the inside. When repeated knocks and calls went unanswered, suspicion mounted amongst her family and neighbours.
Unable to force the door open, locals eventually broke through a window to inspect the room’s interior. They discovered Hasina hanging from a ceiling beam inside the veranda room. Emergency services were notified immediately, and a team from Konabari Police Station arrived at the scene at around 9:00 pm to retrieve the body and complete preliminary inquest formalities.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police confirmed that the body has been transferred to the morgue at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for a comprehensive post-mortem examination. Investigating officers emphasized that the precise cause of death remains unconfirmed pending the autopsy report and further inquiries.
“Police promptly responded to the report from local residents, recovered the body from the scene, and sent it to the hospital morgue for an autopsy,” stated Md. Iftekhar Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Konabari Police Station. “Necessary legal procedures are currently underway, and a full investigation into the incident has been launched.”
While her family confirmed her recent illness, investigators are looking into all potential aspects to determine whether her health condition was linked to the incident or if other factors were involved. A case of unnatural death is being processed as law enforcement authorities await official medical findings to proceed with legal action.
