Popular travel content creator and dentist Dr Orakatul Jannat has expressed frustration after spending nearly three hours waiting for a trolley and luggage at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Dr Jannat described the experience in a Facebook Live broadcast after returning to Bangladesh from performing Umrah on Thursday, 1 October. She said the prolonged wait had left her deeply disappointed and questioned why passengers had to endure such difficulties after completing an international journey.
According to her account, her flight landed at around 8.55am. She initially spent between 30 and 40 minutes standing in a queue to collect a trolley. Even after obtaining one, however, she had to wait considerably longer for her luggage to arrive.
By around 11.30am, she said, the overall waiting time had approached three hours.
“We landed five minutes before 9am. It is now 11am. We first stood in the trolley queue for around 30 to 40 minutes. The trolley queue ended, but while we kept waiting, the luggage did not arrive. It is now 11.30am, almost three hours. Three hours of suffering… this is difficult to describe,” she said during the live broadcast.
She eventually received her luggage. While speaking to her viewers, she also pointed towards other passengers who were waiting and questioned where they could raise concerns about such experiences.
“So much suffering — who do you actually tell about these things? It is our fate. We were born in a country like this,” she said.
Expressing her wider frustration with what she described as repeated difficulties faced by people in Bangladesh, Dr Jannat said she sometimes felt that being born in the country had itself become “a form of sin”. She made the remark while reflecting on the difficulties she and other passengers were experiencing at the airport.
She also said that passengers arriving at Dhaka’s international airport often expect to face various forms of inconvenience.
“Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is in Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka. When you, when we, arrive at this airport, a world of suffering will be waiting for us,” she said.
Dr Jannat said she had faced inconvenience at the airport on previous occasions but claimed that she had never encountered a situation quite like the one she experienced on Thursday. Her comments focused particularly on the long wait for trolleys and the subsequent delay in receiving baggage.
The incident also highlights the importance of efficient baggage-handling services at an international airport, where passengers may already have spent several hours travelling before reaching the arrivals area. Delays in trolley availability or baggage delivery can be particularly difficult for passengers travelling with children, elderly relatives or multiple pieces of luggage.
For returning pilgrims, the journey can be especially demanding after a long international trip. A prolonged wait after landing can add to the physical strain of travel and create further frustration in an already crowded arrivals environment.
Dr Jannat’s remarks were made while documenting her own experience and those of passengers waiting around her. The specific reason for the delay in baggage delivery on Thursday was not stated in the information available.
No comment from the airport authorities was available regarding the reported delay or the circumstances surrounding the prolonged wait for trolleys and luggage.
