A six-year-old boy was killed after being crushed beneath a brick-breaking machine in Madaripur Sadar upazila on Tuesday morning.
The child, identified as Arian, son of Arman Khan, was fatally injured in the Nayachar area at around 8.30am on 6 October. Local residents said the incident occurred while a group of workers were transporting the heavy machine from Charmuguria towards the Gucchogram area.
According to people familiar with the incident, the machine was being taken along the road when Arian fell underneath it as it was crossing the road. He sustained critical injuries in the accident.
Local residents immediately rushed to help and took the child to Madaripur District Hospital. Doctors examined him after he was brought to the hospital but declared him dead.
The incident sent shockwaves through Nayachar, with the child’s family and neighbours left devastated by his sudden death. The loss of a six-year-old has also prompted concerns among local residents about the safety measures used when heavy machinery is moved through populated areas.
Questions have been raised over how the machine was being transported at the time of the accident and whether sufficient precautions were in place to protect pedestrians, particularly children. However, the precise circumstances leading to the incident have not yet been established.
Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kalam Azad said Arian’s body had been sent to the mortuary at Madaripur District Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The officer said police would take legal action if the family submitted a written complaint regarding the incident.
No detailed information was immediately available about the operator of the machine or the workers accompanying it. Police are expected to determine how the accident happened and whether any negligence was involved after examining the circumstances and available information.
The incident has also renewed concerns about the movement of heavy machinery on roads used by local residents. Such equipment can create significant risks in areas where pedestrians and children move freely, particularly if movement is not carefully managed.
For Arian’s family, the accident has brought an irreparable loss. The circumstances surrounding his death are now expected to be examined as the authorities complete the post-mortem process and consider any further legal action following a formal complaint.
