Police in Gazipur have launched an investigation following the recovery of a 35-year-old man’s body from a bamboo platform beside a village pond, amidst allegations from the family that the death was a premeditated murder.
The deceased, Sabuj Miah, was the son of the late Abul Hossain and resided in Uzilab village under the Sripur municipal area. Local residents made the harrowing discovery early on Monday morning (12 October) when they spotted his lifeless body lying across a shaded bamboo sitting frame, commonly constructed near local water bodies for resting. Shocked neighbours immediately alerted the authorities, prompting law enforcement officers from Sripur Police Station to rush to the scene and secure the area. The unexpected death of a well-known resident sent waves of anxiety and confusion through the immediate community.
According to family members, Sabuj ate dinner with his family at his residence on Sunday evening before stepping out into the neighbourhood. When he failed to return home as the night wore on, his family grew anxious. Their fears materialized the next morning when news spread that a body had been discovered near the local pond. Relatives rushed to the site and identified the deceased as Sabuj.
While official investigations remain ongoing, the grieving family strongly suspects foul play. Relatives disclosed that Sabuj had developed a habit of playing mobile-based online gambling games and regularly associated with a group of local youths. Family members suspect that financial disagreements or disputes tied to these online gambling activities led to an altercation, alleging that his companions orchestrated the killing and abandoned his body on the bamboo platform to cover their tracks.
Despite the family’s accusations, police authorities emphasized that no concrete evidence has yet emerged to confirm a homicide. Investigators are working to reconstruct Sabuj’s final hours, trace his recent movements, and interrogate potential witnesses or associates to determine whether any conflict took place prior to his demise.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sripur Police Station, Shahinur Alam, confirmed the recovery of the body and noted that officers are examining every angle of the case. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, the findings of which will prove vital in establishing the precise cause and circumstance of death. OC Alam assured the public that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found responsible once autopsy results and forensic evidence are finalized.
