Man Arrested with Functional Pakistani Revolver in Rajbari

A 31-year-old man was arrested with a functional Pakistani revolver and eight rounds of ammunition during a raid at his residence in Pangsha upazila of Rajbari district on Sunday morning.

The man, identified as Arafat Hossain, also known as ‘Kala Manik’, was arrested by the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) following a search of his home in Harinadangga village. Officials recovered the firearm and ammunition from a shopping bag inside the house.

Arafat is the son of the late Nawab Ali and a resident of Harinadangga village. He is locally known as ‘Kala Manik’.

Mohammad Russell Ali, an inspector at the DNC’s Rajbari district office, said the operation was conducted on the basis of confidential information.

During the search, officials found a functional Pakistani revolver with a wooden grip concealed inside a shopping bag. Eight rounds of ammunition were also recovered alongside the firearm.

Russell Ali confirmed that the revolver was functional at the time of its recovery. However, officials have not disclosed where the weapon came from, how long Arafat had possessed it or whether it had been used in any criminal activity.

Following the operation, Arafat was taken into custody. A case has been filed with Pangsha Model Police Station in connection with the incident, the DNC inspector said. The arrested man was subsequently sent to court.

Questions Remain Over the Firearm’s Origin

The recovery of a firearm and ammunition from a shopping bag inside a residence has raised questions about the weapon’s origin and ownership. Investigators may examine whether the revolver was legally acquired, whether it had a valid licence and whether anyone else was involved in the incident.

However, the authorities have not provided detailed information about the progress of the investigation. No information has been made public confirming that the recovered weapon was used in any criminal offence.

The unlawful possession, storage or use of firearms can pose a serious risk to public safety. Establishing a weapon’s origin, ownership and history of use is therefore an important part of investigating such cases.

Further legal action will depend on the evidence gathered during the investigation and the applicable legal procedures.

The allegations against Arafat Hossain will be determined through the judicial process. His arrest does not, by itself, establish his guilt.
