Chattogram-8: One Killed, Three Injured in Election Campaign Shooting

During an election campaign in Chattogram-8, BNP candidate and Metropolitan convenor Ershad Ullah, along with two others, were shot. Sarwar Babla was killed in the incident.

The attack occurred on Wednesday (5 November) at around 5:30 PM. A viral video on social media shows Ershad Ullah distributing leaflets with party workers, while Sarwar Babla was slightly behind. Suddenly, a young man aimed a pistol at Babla’s shoulder and fired.

Among the injured is Irfanul Haque Shanto, joint convenor of Ward-3 of Pahartali Volunteer League. Babla was taken to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police Commissioner Hasib Aziz stated that Ershad Ullah was not the primary target; the shots were aimed at Babla. He added that Babla had a criminal record and the attackers were likely his rivals.

The commissioner also mentioned that while many people in the area are being detained, capturing the suspects is difficult as they quickly fled the scene. He emphasised that such incidents are undesirable before elections, and police will remain vigilant to prevent recurrence.
