MTB signs new service agreement to manage tuition fee collection and payroll operations for East West University

Mutual Trust Bank PLC (MTB) has recently entered into a comprehensive service agreement with East West University, ensuring enhanced financial support for the institution’s academic and administrative staff, as well as its students. The agreement was formalised at a modest ceremony held on the university’s Aftabnagar campus in Dhaka, according to a press release.

Under the terms of the agreement, MTB will handle the collection of tuition fees, manage all payment-related processes, and operate payroll banking services for university employees. The initiative is expected to significantly strengthen the university’s administrative efficiency and expand its digital financial capabilities.

Present from East West University were Vice Chancellor Professor Shams Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Ashik Mosaddik, Treasurer Air Cdre. Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury (Retd.), Registrar Mashfiqur Rahman, and Director of Finance Md Touhidul Islam FCA.

Representing MTB were Deputy Managing Director and Head of Retail Banking Division Md Shafquat Hossain, Head of Retail Segment Tahsin Taher, Head of Cash Management Mohammad Ashik Iqbal Khan, and Head of Payroll Banking Rashid Ahmed Bin Wali, among other senior officials.

Meanwhile, the High Court’s suspension on increased fees at Chattogram Port has been lifted, enabling the port to begin collecting fees at the revised rates. The chamber judge of the Supreme Court revoked the injunction last Tuesday. Subsequently, on Sunday, the port authority issued a circular instructing officials to implement the new rates. Port Secretary Md Omar Faruk confirmed the development.

The earlier suspension had been issued on 9 November following a writ by the Bangladesh Maritime Law Society. After a leave-to-appeal submission from the shipping ministry, Justice Farah Mahbub overturned the order.
